Week 1
Meet and greet! Students are explained the
rules, guidelines and expectations of Jam Camp 2010 Participants
express their background and aspirations for Jam Camp in brief
essay form. Demonstrations of the child’s ability are presented
to Jam Space staff. Students are then are put into groups(bands)
according to skill, goals and background. Introduction to the
equipment and how to properly operate it is essential in the
first week. Song selection begins. Each student suggests three
songs. The camp instructor then narrows down the selection to
fit the concert and recording studio time schedule. Student’s
practice and rehearsal starts immediately Any needed changes are
done at this time
Week 2
Forming the Band. Participants choose a name
for their band. Basic song structure is introduced to improve
musician communication. A song list along with resources to help
students learning is given. Instructors help participants
maintain a forward momentum in the learning process.
Week 3
As the recording approaches, practice and
rehearsal intensifies and continues. The realization that this
is also work is rewarded by one light day of Rock History or a
movie with Rock and Roll being the
subject.
Participants are encouraged to put
aside differences and keeping focus on the
prize(recording project and the show!) Students are introduced
to basic business principals and are given the opportunity to
plan a show, t-shirt, flyer and CD design.
Week 4
Practice and rehearsal continues and
intensifies. Group discussions about Rock and Roll do’s and
don’ts are shared every morning for this week. Musician
cooperation and communication are heavily taught and emphasized
during week 4. Students are introduced to proper studio behavior
by both the instructor and chief engineer. At the end of week 4
participants are expected to have 95% of song material down.
Promotion of the upcoming show begins.
Week 5
Into
the Recording Studio. Students go into recording studio and
learn basic recording principals. The tracking process allows
students to continue rehearsing while others are in the studio.
Students are expected to have all song material down at the end
of the 5th week. As
an added bonus students are taught stage presence and
choreography. A song set list is given to the students by which
they rehearse. Promotion of the show and show merchandise
intensifies. Participants are expected to work in concert with
one another(perform as a band).
Week 6
Proper sound performance is key during week
6. Instructor’s check and recheck students tone and sonic
quality. Proper stage logistics and stage
etiquette are taught. Students are expected to attend 2 dress
rehearsals. Stage set up is designed by students. Students
collect revenues generated by the show and show merchandise.
Participants are given a free Jam Camp t-shirt and CD. All
students play the night of the show.
